The Challenge

TM Logistics is one of the UK’s largest and most successful independently-owned logistics companies. Their vision is to be ‘recognisably the best logistics service provider in the UK’ and they believe in building relationships that last. This includes the relationship with their employees, who, they believe, are the key to their continuing success. As part of their efforts to fully engage and motivate their staff they have launched a People Charter promoting the development of long-term relationships with staff through management behaviour.

The Approach

Dramatic Solutions were engaged to design a programme that brought the People Charter to life and looked at what it meant in the real world, especially where dealing with difficult situations were concerned. The design team worked closely with TM Logistics’ Organisation and People Development Director, Graeme Barrett to identify suitable scenarios around which to build the learning event that would be genuinely recognisable by the participants.

The resulting workshop used a combination of forum theatre, hot seating and role play to examine the difficult situations and to explore and practice the skills required to deal with them successfully. The situations included performance management interviews, disciplinary meetings as well as motivational one-to-ones and team briefings. TM Logistics entire management team has now experienced the workshop with the result that they have a truly consistent approach to management.

The Results

Setting the tone for the management approach, the programme really brought to life the principles contained in a new People Charter and gave people the opportunity to practice the necessary skills.
